Overview

A car engine is the central component that converts fuel (such as petrol or diesel) into mechanical energy through a controlled process of combustion, using air and spark to ignite the fuel inside its cylinders, which pushes the pistons, turns the crankshaft, and ultimately powers the wheels—allowing the vehicle to move forward or backward while also supporting other functions like charging the battery and running electrical systems.

Beyond just movement, the engine also supports other essential functions in the vehicle. It helps generate electricity to charge the battery, runs the alternator to power lights and electronic systems, and drives accessories like the air conditioning, power steering, and cooling system. Without the engine, a car would not only be immobile—it wouldn’t be able to operate most of its core systems. In short, the engine is what brings the entire car to life.
